The Divine Lorraine Hotel
699 N. Broad Street
Built in 1894, and acquired in 1948 by the Reverend Major J. Divine, The Divine Lorraine was one of the first integrated hotels of its caliber in the U.S. and is a National Historic Landmark. Developer Eric Blumenfeld is restoring the long-abandoned property into a mixed-use project with 101 residential units in the main building on North Broad Street and 10 units in the annex building along Fairmount Ave., along with two levels of retail. The residences in the main building are complete and over 90% occupied; the commercial and annex components are the next phase of construction. Domus Construction is serving as general contractor, Richard Sauder as architect, David Chou as structural engineer and George Cressman of Bohler Engineering as civil engineer.
For much of the late-19th and early-20th centuries, North Broad Street was the fashionable address of wealthy industrialists and a center of culture and nightlife. Now Philadelphia's grand north-south street is once again being transformed, with the restoration and reuse of some of its landmark structures, along with a new generation of high-profile buildings.
Spend an afternoon exploring the "new" North Broad Street in a self-guided tour sponsored by BIA of Philadelphia and join us for a concluding happy hour hosted by Hanover North Broad Street.
